KARACHI: Police have registered a case against the accused involved in the minor girl’s marriage case after court issued directives in this regard.
Zahida, 8, was married to Dilshad, 17, by her father Abdul Rasool in exchange of Dilshad’s sister whom he wanted to marry. A case was registered on court orders against three accused persons though the name of the girl’s husband was removed from the FIR as he is under age. On Tuesday, the accused were taken to the court of Judicial Magistrate (VII) South Ghulam Farooq Shaikh where he ordered the Mehmoodabad police to lodge an FIR. “Police have registered an FIR under section 48 of Sindh Criminal Act which is a bail able offense and its punishment is for two years,” Jamshed Town SP Javed Akbar Riaz told Daily Times.
The FIR was registered on behalf of complainant Perveen, mother of Zahida, against the four accused, Abdul Rasool (Zahida’s father) Dilshad (Zahida’s husband), Mohammad Siddiq (Dilshad’s father) and Qari Naqeeb Ali Shah (the Qazi who performed the nikkah).
It is pertinent to mention here that police had detained Abdul Rasool, Dilshad and Qari Naqeeb Shah under section 9 of Child Marriage Act. SP Riaz said that the accused persons will be arrested again and raids are being carried out in this regard. However, not a single accused was arrested till the filing of this report.
Remanded: Badaruddin, an accused in Sharifabad firecracker case of June 26 that left two dead and seven injured, was remanded to the custody of Sharifabad police till July 4 by the In-charge Administrative Judge for Anti Terrorism Courts Syed Mehmood Alam Rizvi, here on Tuesday. The police produced the accused and sought his physical remand. He was booked under section 4/5 of the Explosives Act. The ATC jurisdiction was attracted as explosive material stored for making firecrackers went off creating a huge blast in the neighbourhood. As a result several houses adjoining the illegal godown had crumbled, injuring and killing people.
