In a shocking event in the Dadu district of Sindh, a father took his 16-year-old daughter’s life in a fit of rage and despair. Firdous Rafiqan, the victim, had defied her father’s wish to marry her off to a man of his choosing. This heinous act took place within the jurisdiction of the Bhand Mari Police Station in Mehar.
The Unfolding of Tragedy
Following the unfortunate disagreement, the father turned to violence, mercilessly shooting his daughter and subsequently himself. The victim’s brother, Wassim, reported the incident to the authorities. He shared that their father’s insistence on Firdous’s marriage had led to this tragic end.
Police Confirmation and Investigation
The local police have confirmed the incident and moved Firdous’s body to the hospital for the necessary legal procedures. The father’s body, too, has been taken into custody as the investigation continues.
A Glimpse into a Larger Issue
This incident stands as a grim reminder of the prevalent issues of honor killings and violence against women in Pakistan. It comes on the heels of another recent case in Gujranwala where a man took the lives of his wife and 13-year-old daughter. Despite locals’ attempts to apprehend him, the perpetrator in that case remains at large. These incidents serve as a brutal reality check, shedding light on the urgent need for societal reform and stricter law enforcement against such crimes.
