Father of Christian rape victim appeals for security, justice

LAHORE: A Christian man has accused the police of mishandling the rape case of his underage daughter and of protecting the suspects besides complaining that he was being threatened that he would be implicated in a blasphemy case if he does not stop pursuing the case.

Talking to Daily Times, Sarfraz Andrew, a resident of Christian Town, Sheikhupra, said that his daughter, Maria, was going to school on April 24 when unknown people kidnapped her. He said that the 14-year-old was recovered from Multan three days after.

He said that his daughter testified in a court that two local residents named Safdar and Mehboob had raped her. He said that the medical examination also established that she had been raped during three days of her captivity.

He said that the suspects and a local influential named Riaz Dogar had threatened him (Andrew) of dire consequences in case he does not stop pursuing the case. He added that the accused wanted to convert his underage daughter to Islam which was not only against the law of the land but was also against his religious beliefs. He said that the accused were also pressurising him into making a compromise.

Calling it a worst case of religious discrimination also, the complainant appealed to the chief minister and police high-ups to provide security and justice to his family.
