Sir: The way our society and media exploit the plight of rape survivors indicates the height of moral bankruptcy. A platoon of media personnel can be seen photographing the survivor only to get a picture that can be matched to the written details of her painful ordeal.
In the western world, the names and identities of the survivors of such crimes is always kept secret to protect them from further physical and psychological harm. It is also pathetic to see NGOs trying their best to make the most out of this opportunity by photographing the survivor and hovering about in attempts to get ‘funding’ from donors. This exploitation of the rape survivors’ misery is basically a marketing tactic adopted to reap monetary gains out of someone’s suffering. The level of insensitivity displayed by such people is something to be utterly ashamed of.
