ABBOTTABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Monday sent Shamim, mother of the murdered girl, Ambreen, for another three-day police remand to complete the investigation into the case.
The mother of the ill-fated girl, who had allegedly fallen victim to the wrath of a so-called jirga, is among 14 persons arrested by the Abbottabad police in connection with the case.
According to police, Shamim is the main witness to the incident. She was earlier given to police on a three-day remand by the ATC judge Raja Masood, while 13 other accused members of jirga were sent on a seven-day remand by the trial court. They would be presented to the ATC after three days.
Reliable sources said police had allowed Riasat, father of Ambreen, to meet his wife in police custody and get details about the incident as police reportedly failed to find anything conclusive to frame charge-sheet against jirga members and mother of Ambreen.
The statement of the mother of Ambreen will be the turning point in the whole episode against so-called jirga members who are charged with murder and burning of the victim and setting ablaze two vehicles.
According to the initial reports, Ambreen was brutally killed for she was an alleged facilitator to one of her friends who ran away with her paramour and later got married at Abbottabad.
Meanwhile, a senior lawyer told Dawn on condition of anonymity that police investigation into the case was faulty as the suspects held in connection with the case were the people who had decreed against the girl who had run away with her paramour and had nothing to do with the murder of the girl.
According to the lawyer, police had based their investigation on the phone calls made by the councillor Pervez to call up the people to participate in the jirga.
However, police are sure to prove the case against the jirga members.
It may be mentioned here that results of the DNA tests of the girl are awaited.
On the other hand, Riasat, the dejected father of Ambreen, wants his wife to be out of the police custody as soon as possible.
Talking to media persons, he said his family was feeling insecure after the tragedy, adding he was not allowing his only son, Noman, to get out of the house since the tragedy struck them.
