Draft bill against domestic violence discussed

HYDERABAD: PPP MPA Humera Alwani will submit a draft bill in the provincial assembly on domestic violence against women and children.

She presented her draft bill on Wednesday during a meeting jointly organised by the Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) and the Society for the Protection of Rights of the Child (SPARC) at the SPO office.

She said the bill will be presented in the assembly for legislation after consultation. She added that more meetings would be organised for consultation, at Mithi on July 17, at Nausharo Feroze on July 18, at Sukkur on July 19 and on July 20 in Larkana.

Alwani said every third woman faced torture, sexual abuse, intimidation, verbal and emotional abuse and threats in the society and asserted that there was need to amend the discriminatory laws to protect women and children.

Regional Head of the SPO, Mustafa Baloch, SPARC Protection Manager Kashif Bajeer, UC-2 Qasimabad Nazim Mahboob Abro, Dr Najeeb Memon, Humera Noor, Shafiq Kandhro, Nazir Naz, Razia Kousar and Zaibunisa Mullah, also expressed their views on the occasion.
