PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to establish anti-rape cells at district hospitals across the province within four weeks in order to effectively implement anti-rape laws.

A special meeting was held here in this regard presided by chairperson special committee on anti-rape Barrister Malika Bukhari, provincial minister Kamran Bangash and chairperson women parliamentary caucus Sumera Shams.

Talking on the occasion Malika Bukhari said that anti-rape cells will be established in three stages, adding that initially these cells will be established in districts with highest number of rape cases.

“Medico-legal officers will be deployed at these cells at all district hospitals along with prosecutors and they will be especially trained to deal with such cases,” he maintained, adding that women medical legal officers will also be deployed in this regard.

She said that the provincial departments will be in constant touch with the federal government so as to effectively implement anti-rape laws.

“The prosecution and police department will ensure provision of data to special anti-rape committee of the federal government,” he added.

Talking on the occasion Kamran Bangash said that all departments should play their role in the implementation of anti-rape laws and government would extend all-out support to these departments.

Sumera Shams said that the deployment of female medico-legal officers will have a good impact as they will be able to better understand the problems of other women and rape victims.
