Decadent crime: Five rape suspects sent on physical remand

RAWALPINDI: A local court in Gujar Khan handed over five rape accused to the police on a four-day physical remand on Sunday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, ASI Jan Muhammad said the accused were produced in the court of Magistrate Tajamul Hussain.

“It has been confirmed that the girl was raped,” said a police official involved with the case.
Five “Qaumi Razakars”, or national volunteers, associated with the Gujar Khan Police allegedly abducted a 20-year-old girl in Dhoke Chaudrian, Ward 1 of Gujar Khan while she was on her way to the market on Saturday and took her to a rented room and raped her, according to a police official.

The girl was then dumped in a nearby place and she went home and informed her family of the incident after she had regained consciousness, added the official.

The suspects were arrested after the girl’s father lodged a report at a police station. A raid was conducted by the police at the premises where the accused were present. The accused have been identified as Ajmal, Khursheed, Umair, Majid and Naseer. A police official said DNA samples have been collected and sent to the laboratory for tests.

Doctors have conducted a medical exam of the victim which tested positive. Locals of the area had staged a protest outside the hospital and police station and demanded handing over of the suspected rapists to them at the day of the incident.

A police official said that the suspects can be incarcerated for 20 to 25 years along with fines if the crime proved.
