CSOs to celebrate Malala’s Nobel Prize

Karachi: Several civil society organisations (CSO) have decided to organise a programme titled ‘Jashn-e-Malala’ to celebrate the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize on Malala Yousufzai. The event would be held in December.

In a meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of senior activist for women’s rights Anis Haroon, it was also decided to pay tribute to Dr Abdus Salam – first Nobel Prize winner of the country.

Prominent personalities, including senior journalists, educationists and scientists, would be invited to highlight the scientist’s contributions to the country as well to the world. His photographs would also be put on display.

The programme would be marked by a performance by Sheema Kirmani. Keynote speakers include Pervez Hoodbhoy, Arif Hassan and Zubeida Mustafa.

Prominent literary figures, including Amar Sindhu and Zahida Hina, would discuss their respective presentations on the Historical Perspective and Impact of Extremism on Women’s Rights and Recognition of Conflicts on Socio-Cultural Changes.

Fehmida Riaz and Anis Haroon would also recite their poems highlighting the courage and confidence of Malala.

Pictures of Pakistani women, who in their respective capacities played prominent roles for women emancipation and national development, would also be put on display.
