MANSEHRA: A local court on Friday extended the ban on meetings with Sonia, an alleged gang rape victim, until August 27.
District and Sessions Judge Syed Rafique Shah issued the orders on an application moved by the lawyers affiliated with the District Bar Association on Friday. The association moved the court to seek extension of the ban on Sonia’s meeting with her parents and others at the Darul Aman in Abbottabad.
Shahjehan Khan Swati, president of the district bar, told reporters after the hearing that his association had demanded Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo moto notice of the case as the girl was allegedly raped by policemen at two police stations and the issue was highly sensitive.
He said the district bar had already rejected the judicial commission constituted by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan under a civil judge to investigate the case.Sonia, who was taken into custody while wandering alone in Mansehra city, had alleged in her statement before the local court earlier this month that the policemen gang-raped her at the City and Kaghan police stations. Sonia had eloped with her boy friend from Karachi and spent a few nights in a hotel in Mansehra before her lover, Adil, abandoned her.
