Compensation: Mother of murdered girls offered govt job

FAISALABAD: The chief minister on Monday took notice of the murder of three girls by their father on Sunday and directed police to see to it that the man was arrested as soon as possible.

DCO Noorul Amin Mengal and CPO Afzal Kausar visited the family of the deceased and announced a Rs500,000 grant for the mother of the girls. The DCO also offered her a job to help her earn a livelihood for her other children.

A team headed by Madina Town SP Malik Jameel Jafar and Nishatabad DSP Osaf Safdar Wahla and Chak Jhumra SHO Inspector Ghulam Shabbir was constituted and they were directed to arrested the suspect, Irshad Muhammad, within 48 hours.

On Sunday night, Muhammad had strangled his three daughters – twin seven-year-olds and a five-year-old.

Abdus Sattar, their maternal grandfather, told police that his daughter had married Muhammad eight years ago.

He said when his daughter gave birth to twin girls, he began to quarrel with her and beat her.

He said on Sunday, his daughter was at a wedding with a son and another daughter when Muhammad killed their three daughters and fled.

Police registered a case against Muhammad Section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on Sattar’s complaint.

Ghulam Shabir, a police official deputed in the area, told AFP that Muhammad had been on anti-depressants after being laid off three years ago.

When the mother returned the next day she found the dead children in bed. The father had fled.

Zaheer Ahmed, the investigating officer, said there were rope marks on the girls’ necks.
