Cleric wants public execution for rapists

MANSEHRA: The member of executive body of Wafaqul Madaris Al-Arabia Pakistan, Mufti Kifayatullah Thursday said Qari Naseer should be executed publicly if was involved in the gang-rape incident, but sanctity and respect of seminaries should not be destroyed.

“We condemn whatever happened to an FSc student and those responsible should be brought to justice forthwith. But at the same time, we also denounce an anti-seminary campaign going on after the gang-rape incident,” Mufti Kifayatullah told reporters here.

He said those involved in the gang-rape e should be punished in accordance with the existing laws and case should also be decided without any delay. “If the perpetrators are brought to justice without any discrimination promptly, nobody can dare even think about such crimes in future,” he maintained.

The former member of provincial assembly, who was also nominated by Tehreek-eTaliban Pakistan as their negotiator for talks with government, said seminaries were imparting teachings of Islam and Shariah and should not be linked with this [gang-rape] incident, which happened earlier this month in Mansehra.

He said following the gang-rape case, local and international media lashed out at the seminaries, which was totally propaganda and had no grounds.

“We cannot hold a father accountable for the misdeed of his son. How can seminaries and people related to this noble mission be blamed for the fault of an individual,” he said. Mufti Kifayatullah said police should also act promptly and with utmost honesty against the well-off and powerful people who go scot-free after committing such crimes.
