BEIJING (December 22 2003): Pakistan and china have agreed to undertake joint projects for the welfare of women and disabled persons.
An understanding to this effect was arrived at meeting held between Madam Gu Xiu Lian, President of All-china women Federation and the Nilofar Bakhtiar, adviser to the Prime Minister. The two sides decided to exchange women business delegations to initiate economic-oriented projects of their interest.
The delegations will visit each other country within next three months, said Nilofar while talking to APP at the end of her week long visit to china. Terming her visit as highly successful, she said it would help create jobs and educational facilities for the women.
Chinese experts will soon visit Pakistan to train Pakistani women in horticultural and toys’s making sectors.
The two sides also discussed ways and means promoting co-operation, for the welfare of disabled persons.
It was agreed that Chinese experts will visit Pakistan to train teachers of disabled institutions.
The two sides will hold regular contacts exploring common venues of collaboration in social sector development. She said, “they have identified areas of expertise sharing, these include rehabilitation of special persons, income generation and skill learning opportunities for women and fighting violence against women.”
Nilofar, who was leading a nine-member delegation of business and professional women, also visited Shanghai and Guangnan province on the invitation of the women Federation.
In a meeting with the Deputy Governor of the Guangnan, areas of mutual collaboration and common challenges faced by the women of the two brotherly countries were discussed.
The Governor, a senior leader of the Communist Party, appreciated the steps taken by the government of Pakistan in bringing about policy changes for the uplift of women and children.
He also appraised the Pakistan delegation of the massive initiative,” taken for women by china, particularly after the fourth world conference in Beijing held in 1995.
