Children for sale’ in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Believe it or not but the price hike and poverty compelled a woman to present her children for sale in a bazaar here on Monday.
Hundreds of people witnessed the situation when Aisha Malik arrived in the Resham Bazaar with her two children and with a placard inscribed with “children for sale”.
Aisha Malik, a resident of the Khuda Ki Basti locality of the Kotri Taluka, Jamshoro district, was holding a placard which read that the children were for sale because of poverty.
She told the people and the media persons present there that her husband was languishing in the Sukkur jail and she wanted to get him released by selling one of her children.
She passed various streets of the bazaar and refused to take any money from the people as financial help, asking them to purchase one of her children so that she could be able to get her husband released from the jail.
“My husband is languishing in the jail for the past two and a half years and I have no money to get him released. My relatives were harassing me, therefore, I arrived in Kotri. But now, I don’t have any home,” Aisha said.
I have two options: either to commit suicide or sell a child, she said.
She had protested in front of the Hyderabad press club for the release of her husband, whom she married with her own free will after separating from her first husband, which caused resentment among her relatives and cases were lodged against her and her husband. Later, she left the bazaar.
