Child marriage: Accused remanded in custody
SUKKUR: Two accused involved in child marriage were remanded in police custody for three days and the minor (bride) handed over to her maternal uncle, on Tuesday in Mirpur Mathelo.
Both the accused, Shabaan Hyderani and Behram Hyderani were the residents of village Pir Bux Hyderani.
Behram Hyderani, a 45-year-old man of Pir Bux Hyderani village married an 18-year-old woman Sajida d/o Manzoor resident of Multan, a fortnight back.
The groom had, at the time of nuptial, promised of marrying his seven-year-old niece Rukhsana d/o of Shabaan Hyderani to four-year-old Rashid s/o Manzoor.
Manzoor visited the village on Monday with the purpose of solemnising the nikah of his toddler son with the minor niece of his son-in-law.
Moulvi Lal Hyderani completed the nikah formalities and a community elder, Fazal Hyderani acted as the witness.
Police after raiding the house took into custody the little girl and arrested her father Shabaan and uncle Behram. However, Moulvi Lal Hyderani and Manzoor Punjabi along with the toddler (groom) managed to escape from there.
The two accused Shabaan Hyderani and Behram Hyderani along with the girl Rukhsana were produced in the court of second civil judge, Ghotki Samiullah Qureshi on Tuesday.
The court heard the case and granted accused in police remand for three days while the little girl was too awed to give a statement after which she was handed over to her maternal uncle Aziz Ahmed Hyderani.
