Captain Hammad and five army men arrested in Sui rape case

ISLAMABAD, February 23, 2005 A special army investigation team has taken Captain Hammad, the prime suspect in the gangrape of a female doctor at Sui, and five other army personnel into custody after finding fresh evidence, sources said on February 19.

Sources said three used condoms had been found in the doctor’s room and DNA tests showed that they were used by one man. DNA tests of the hair found from the doctor’s room showed that they were from different people, sources said, adding that some stains were also found on the pillow of her bed.

Sources said that all army personnel in custody including Captain Hammad would have to undergo DNA tests after which the doctor would be called to identify the rapist, Online reported.

Major General Shaukat Sultan, the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed that Captain Hammad was in custody. “He (Captain Hammad) was taken into custody a few days before,” the ISPR DG told Daily Times, adding that he was being investigated.
