Call for more women police stations in Punjab

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Dr Nausheen has said that there is a dire need to increase the number of women police stations in Punjab.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the PTI MPA said that for a female population of over 50 million there are only three women stations, one in Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi each. The increasing incidents of violence against women and custodial torture made it necessary to establish them.

She said women are ignored in general police stations due to political and male dominant factors and they continue to face tremendous difficulties in seeking justice. Even the female police officials face harassment at workplaces. All women accused should be kept in women stations to avoid unpleasant incidents occurring in general stations, she said.
