Business and Finance – [International Trade, Economic Development] – PCJCCI Touts Cosmetics as Untapped CPEC Opportunity

Lahore, 28-Jan-2026 (PPI): The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has identified the cosmetics and personal care domain as an emerging sector for bilateral cooperation, citing a profound transformation within China’s consumer market as a key opportunity for Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

PCJCCI President Nazir Hussain stated that the evolution of China’s cosmetics industry provides valuable lessons for Pakistani businesses. He observed that its core competitiveness is now anchored in brand narratives, systematic research, and technological progress, rather than just products and distribution. “Under CPEC, Pakistan has an opportunity to align its emerging consumer industries with China’s innovation-led growth model and move toward value-added exports,” said the president.

The chamber highlighted that the Chinese sector is moving away from a marketing-driven model towards one focused on brand building, technological innovation, and consumer experience.

Zafar Iqbal, Vice President of PCJCCI, emphasised that the next phase of CPEC, which concentrates on industrial cooperation and special economic zones, can act as a catalyst for developing Pakistan’s local industry. He pointed to Pakistan’s potential in herbal, organic, halal, and natural cosmetic products, suggesting that CPEC-linked industrial zones, technology transfer, and joint ventures could enhance product quality and access to the Chinese market.

This shift in China aligns closely with the objectives of CPEC’s second phase, according to Brig. Mansoor Saeed Sheikh (Retd), Senior Vice President of PCJCCI. He noted that the transition towards building systematic capabilities demonstrates the maturity of China’s consumer industries and that CPEC offers a strategic platform for collaboration in research, packaging innovation, and digital branding.

Salahuddin Hanif, the chamber’s Secretary General, stressed the necessity of institutional collaboration and research-based planning to maximise CPEC’s impact. He affirmed that the PCJCCI is committed to facilitating business-to-business linkages, knowledge exchange, and investment partnerships between the two nations.

Industry analysis referenced by the chamber indicates China’s cosmetics sector is advancing to a stage of “systematic capability output”, with its brands globalising through sustained technological innovation.

The PCJCCI concluded that integrating Pakistan’s cosmetics sector into CPEC’s industrial framework could contribute significantly to export diversification, job creation, and stronger commercial ties between Pakistan and China.
