Bus service for women launched

LAHORE: The Lahore Transport Company launched on Thursday the Pink Bus Service for women only in the city through a private bus company at Route No-1 (RA Bazaar to Sanda). MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the service.

“Initially we have introduced this facility with only one bus for the women at Route No-1 and the LTC management will gradually increase the number of buses on this and some other routes having several girl colleges/schools on the way,” LTC General Manager (Enforcement) Kamran Khan told Dawn.

He said the private company ‘First Bus’ supported the LTC in launching the PBS. He said the company had hired female bus conductors to deal with women passengers.

Mr Khan said the launching of the PBS service would create a sense of protection among the women passengers.

He said since women were appreciating the initiative of the government in this regard, the LTC in collaboration with private bus operators planned to gradually expand this service on other routes.
