Brothers kill mother, two step-daughters for ‘honour’

LAHORE: Two brothers killed their mother and two step-sisters in the name of honour in the Township area on Tuesday. The victims were identified as Sughran Bibi, 55, and her two daughters Muqadas, 17, and Amina, 14, residents of Township.

Police said that one Shoban, who used to sell hand-made wooden chairs, had contracted second marriage with Sughran after his first wife took divorce. Shoban had two daughters (Muqadas and Amina) from his first wife.

Sughran had four sons (Shahzad, Asif, Rasheed and Yousaf) from her first husband, who had died a few months back. Asif and Shahzad used to collect and sell scrap while their mother used to serve as a housemaid. All family members were living in a hut in Township. The accused brothers were not happy with the second marriage of their mother and forced her to get divorce from Shoban. However, Sughran refused to get a divorce.

Meanwhile, the sons nursed a grudge against their mother and two sisters as they doubted their character and repeatedly warned them to mend their ways but they paid no heed to their warning. On the day of the incident, accused Shahzad and Asif had a scuffle with their stepfather, after which, they tied up their mother, stepsisters and stepfather with a rope on cots. They slit open throats of their mother and two sisters with a sharp-edged weapon. Shoban managed to escape from the scene and informed the police.

Police reached the spot, collected evidence and arrested the accused persons. Both the accused brothers confessed to killing the three in the name of honour. They said that the act of their mother and sisters tarnished the image of their family. Police shifted the bodies to a morgue for autopsy and registered a case against the two murderers.

Meanwhile, Yousaf and Rasheed also reached the police station and stated before the police that their two accused brothers were of a bad character and their mother had stopped them. Shoban had also left the place due to the issue but he came back after reconciliation. A case has been registered against the accused killers.
