British Pound Surges Towards 390; US Dollar Holds Steady in Open Market

Karachi, 28-Jan-2026 (PPI): The British pound sterling exhibited considerable strength in the open market on Wednesday, climbing towards the 390 mark, while the US dollar maintained its position above the 280 level against the local currency, according to figures released by the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan.

In the open market, the American dollar was quoted with a buying rate of 280.23 and a selling rate of 280.88. These figures reflect a notable gap when compared to the interbank market, where the greenback was traded between 279.81 and 280.01.

Sterling registered a significant presence, with its buying price at 385.79 and its selling price reaching 389.45. The Euro also displayed a robust valuation, being purchased at 335.26 and sold at 338.52.

The data also provided rates for other international currencies. The Japanese Yen was listed with rates of 1.81 for buying and 1.86 for selling. Meanwhile, prominent Middle Eastern currencies, the UAE Dirham and the Saudi Riyal, were priced at 76.50/77.31 and 74.81/75.42 for their respective buying and selling transactions.
