Islamabad – A 26-year-old boy committed suicide after shooting a female medical student (24) dead right outside the examination hall here at Shams Colony area yesterday. Both the boy and girl were familiar to each other and hailed from Mianwali district. They were residing in the area of Bhara Kahu. Police sources said Asif Khan wanted to marry Ammara Alam but faced opposition from her which might have led the former to take this extreme decision.
The examination centre was set up in the Social Security Hospital in the limits of Shams Colony police station. According to the preliminary investigation, Khan waited for the girl outside the examination centre and opened fire as soon as the latter appeared in the corridors. She received bullet in her belly from close range and died on the spot. Later, the attacker also killed himself with the same weapon. He hit himself in the head, said the police.
Ammara was a student at Bhara Kahu Medical and Dental College. The police are still trying to know what really led the boy to take this extreme decision. The incident created panic amongst other students and staff at the examination centre.
Later, the dead bodies were shifted to the hospital for autopsy. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
