Body of missing woman recovered from courtyard

GUJRAT: The body of a married woman was found from the courtyard of the house of her in-laws seven months after she was bludgeoned to death by her husband over some honour-related issue in Jaggu Head village in Bulani police precincts, Sara-i-Alamgir.

Police claimed to have arrested main suspect Shahzad Ali who confessed to killing his wife and burying her in the courtyard.

Muhammad Asif, a resident of Ferozwala town of Sheikhupura district, lodged a complaint with Bulani police on May 7that his daughter Gulnaz Akhtar had been married to Shahzad Ali around a couple of years ago.

He said his daughter would complain about being subjected to physical torture by her husband and in-laws which her parents ignore by asking her to get settled with her husband.

However for the last many months his daughter had been missing and whenever he or his wife tried to meet her or call her, the in-laws did not cooperate by saying that she has gone to some relatives, he said and added that he along with other family members arrived at her house which was found locked.

He apprehended that his daughter had been kidnapped and murdered.

Police then registered a case on his report against suspect Shahzad Ali, his parents and other family members under sections364 and 109 of Pakistan Penal Code.

A spokesman for Gujrat police said DPO Dr Mustanser Atta Bajwa had constituted a special team under DSP Sara-iAlamgir Mumtaz Mekan to trace the woman.

The police team, he said, had detained suspect Shahzad Ali who confessed to killing his wife by repeatedly hitting a pistol on her head and later burying her in the courtyard of his house around seven months ago.

He said Shahzad suspected that his wife had an alleged affair.

Police have shifted the body to hospital where doctors later conducted autopsy.

Meanwhile, police have inserted the section 302, 34 and 201 of PPC into the already lodged FIR whereas the parents of the suspect have also been taken into custody for further investigation.
