ISLAMABAD – Adviser to the Prime Minister Nilofar Bakhtiar has said the bill against Karo-Kari will help eradicate the old tradition from the society and end discriminatory attitude towards women.
She told a TV channel the bill will help stop killing of women in the name of ‘honour’ in the country. She termed it a historical achievement. “We were waiting for the bill for the last many years. We prepared the bill with sincerity, devotion and intense deliberations, and involved all concerned segments of the society,” she added.
She said women are playing an important role for the country’s prosperity and Islam gives them important place in the society. Nilofar said only in 2003, about 1,261 women were killed in the name of Karo-Kari in different parts of the country. “We have passed a law that must be a matter of pride for women,” she added.
