Bid to kidnap WAF activist in Hyderabad slammed

HYDERABAD: The Women Action Forum (WAF) on Monday condemned an attempt to kidnap a female activist and poetess Rehana Channar from the Nasim Nagar Chowk here.

Addressing a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club, WAF leader Amar Sindhu said three persons tried to kidnap the activist, but she offered resistance and foiled their bid.Sindhu condemned the incident and demanded action against those involved in the kidnapping attempt.

She added that this attempt was a negation of right of women to be present in public places.She said the WAF expressed grave concern over the incidents of harassment of women in public places and around girls’ colleges.

She said it considered such attempts inaction of the state as well as silence of progressive forces on hostile ideologies against women and discrimination on gender basis.She said a WAF delegation would meet the Hyderabad DIG on Tuesday (today) to apprise him of the situation arising out of the incident.

She said the delegation would ask the DIG to deploy police force around girls’ colleges and in public places to create a feeling of protection among women. She said the WAF would hold a rally here on Thursday. She appealed to social activists, political workers and members of the civil society to support the rights of women and condemn the attempt of kidnapping.
