LAHORE: Aurat Foundation Lahore has launched provincial General Election Monitoring (GEM) Cell to monitor the upcoming elections in Pakistan from a gender perspective.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Aurat Foundation stated that the aim of GEM Cell is to enhance women’s political participation during election and in post-election period. Under this initiative a team of GEM observers would set to monitor the electoral process from gender dimension.
The Cell envisages observing and providing necessary assistance to women voters and women candidates. Management of polling process by female polling staff would be focused to formulate suggestions to improve the system. A network of coordinators in 36 districts of the Punjab has been geared up to provide information and gender assistance in this regard.
