ATC remands three suspects in child rape, murder case

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court remanded on Monday three suspects for seven more days in police custody. The suspects were accused of allegedly kidnapping, raping and then murdering a minor girl.

The suspects, Abid, Sher and Imran, were arrested in August, two days after the incident was reported. The seven-year-old daughter of a labourer went missing while playing outside her house on June 30. According to her family, they thought that she went to visit a friend but after sunset they became anxious about her whereabouts.

The next morning, her body was found in a bushy ditch nearby. The autopsy report confirmed that she was sexually abused and then strangled to death.

The police nabbed a suspect, Abid, based on the testimonies of the witnesses who to saw the girl with him. The suspect was remanded and later the police arrested two of his accomplices, Sher and Imran. All three suspects resided in the same area as the girl.

The police report submitted to the court states that Abid lured the girl and took her with him. His two accomplices waited for him on a motorcycle parked in an adjacent street. The investigating officer is trying to collect incriminating evidence against the suspects, who have pleaded innocent in front of the jury. He requested the court grant him more time to interrogate the suspects. The ATC-I judge allowed his request and asked him to bring a progress report on the next hearing of the case.
