Assault: Brick kiln labourer ‘raped by four men’

By: Z Ali

HYDERABAD: As the accused in the recent gang-rape incident in Thar still remain elusive, another woman has reportedly been subjected to sexual assault in the Tando Allahyar district on Saturday.

A brick kiln labourer R* was raped by four men in front of her husband at Gul Hassan Kunbhar’s brick kiln.
The alleged rapists tied the hands and legs of the couple at gunpoint before abusing her. R’s husband was also beaten up.

The couple hails from the town of Bulri Shah Karim in the Tando Mohammad Khan district. But they moved to Tando Allahyar a few weeks ago to find jobs. They both recently started working at the kiln.

The police investigation team formed, led by Inspector Nisar Soomro, raided the kiln and adjoining areas, including Bheel Colony and Chambarh Naka. Two of the alleged rapists, Ajab alias Aju Macchi and Pinyal Macchi, were arrested after being identified by the victims. An FIR has also been lodged.

An investigating police officer told The Express Tribune that Aju Macchi, who also worked at the kiln, has confessed to the crime. “I was incited by Pinyal. I feel ashamed for having wronged a married woman,” he was quoted by the police as saying.

This rape incident is the second such case in southern Sindh this week. On Wednesday, M Bheel was allegedly raped by eight men in Tharparkar’s Chacharo taluka. Five of the eight accused are still on the run.
