Anisa for free movement of Saarc media persons

TAXILA – Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli on December 16 said free movement of Saarc mediapersons would promote understanding and cooperation among the member states.

“Media should use its enormous potential for disseminating information and even in popularising new technologies,” she told reporters during a sightseeing visit of Saarc information ministers to the Taxila museum. She said the media was the most effective tool of promoting understanding and cooperation and could render valuable assistance to various fields. She said since the adoption of new targets and broadening of cooperation among Saarc members, Pakistan had played a proactive role in implementing the decisions. The minister said that as the pace of action even on agreed areas had been rather slow in the initial years, a new sense of urgency in achieving economic and social goals had emerged and this had been made possible only through the collective endeavours of the member states.

She said Pakistan had taken numerous initiatives to improve the image of Saarc, with the active support of other member states, as well as their media managers. “Pakistan believes in promotion of cooperation to achieve goals and improve the quality of life in the Saarc region,” she added.

Earlier, the Saarc ministers visited the museum, Surkap remains and other archaeological sites and lauded Pakistan for preserving the cultural heritage.
