Ancestral property: Widow waits for ‘justice’ for last 30 years

Kasur – Despite prevailing strict laws of inheritance, women in the province are facing immense hardships to get their ancestral property right. A widow, Surayya, 65, has been waiting for justice allegedly due to lack of knowledge about laws on the part of Kasur police for the last 30 years.

According to details, widow Surayya had asked his brothers to transfer her ancestral property inherited by her as per laws. But, Surayya’s brothers, Ashraf Ali (Wapda officer) and Akram Ali (a retired employee) allegedly refused to give her the ancestral property inherited by her. Both the brothers, allegedly distributed the property between them. Surayya kept on demanding his right but they did not transfer the property to her. Both the brothers moved the court in 2019 against their sister for demanding her ancestral property. Surayya also submitted an application in Police Station Mustafaabad under Section 498-A. Police on the order of DPO Kasur registered an FIR against accused. Police declared the accused as guilty. Meanwhile, SP Legal Inspector Qadeer Bhatti suggested that as Surayya’s name had been included in the record of Excise Department as legal heir so the FIR should be quashed. The relevant investigating officer quashed the FIR.  The accused brother then submitted an application in Anti-Corruption Department against Surayya Parveen but inquiry officer dismissed it after hearing point of view of both parties.  Surayya Parveen has said that she is facing immense hardships to get her ancestral property which was her right. She blamed the accused for attempting to her son about which she had already submitted an application in the police station.
