Accord signed to set up 80 maternity health centres

Karachi: The Aman Health Care Services (AHCS) signed an accord with the DKT international here on Monday to provide education and training to reproductive health care service providers in Karachi.

In a statement, CEO AHCS Dr Saadia Quraishy said Karachi the most populous city of the country had been identified as an area with a largely underserved population as compared to other regions.

“Through the partnership with DKT International, women belonging to four towns in the metropolis, Landhi, Korangi, Bin Qasim and Malir, will be provided needed care by teams of well-trained midwives,” she said.

Dr Quraishy mentioned DKT International since 2013 had trained around 1,000 young midwives to earn a living by serving their communities without leaving their homes or villages. She reiterated that the clinics provided a safe haven for expectant mothers seeking professional advice.

The AHCS chief said that under the arrangement 80 health care centres would be established.
