A ‘culture’ of rape?
KARACHI: Rape is currently one of the most burning issues in India. A rape case is reported in India every 22 minutes. It might not be problematic to conclude that the prevalence of rape in India is due to cultural changes in that country of late. It can be concluded that explicit content in Indian films and dramas are playing a part in increasing rape cases in India.
It is worrying that such content has become increasingly popular in Pakistan as well. There are many news channels in Pakistan whose news bulletin are not complete without showing vulgar clips from Indian films in the name of entertainment and there are also many drama channels whose dramas are not complete without the inclusion of vulgar episodes in it, inspired from Indian films and dramas. This might also explain the rising trend of rape that Pakistan has been witnessing of late.
I want to request the Pakistani government and electronic media authorities to take strong action against news and drama channels, which show such content. Otherwise, the problem may escalate further.
