LAHORE: A 36-year-old woman who suffered critical burns in an acid attack later died at a public hospital at Jalalpur Pirwala on Wednesday.
Police said Hafiza Bibi, 36, of Baito Wahi village, was asleep in her house, along with her son when two unidentified men barged in.
The intruders tied the son of the woman up with a bed, threw acid on the woman and fled the scene. The woman suffered critical burns on her head, face and other body parts and was taken to the Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital where she died soon after being admitted.
The police shifted the body to a morgue at Jalalpur Pirwala for an autopsy and started the investigation.
A senior doctor on condition of anonymity told Dawn that the woman had suffered 70 per cent burns and her body was unidentifiable.
Multan City Police Officer (CPO) Khurrum Shehzad Haider said that teams were constituted to arrest the two unidentified attackers, adding that investigation was under way to know the cause of the acid attack.
