On January 28, a five-month pregnant woman from Sheikhupura succumbed to injuries after being allegedly set on fire by her in-laws. The local police reported that the woman’s face, arms, and body were 70 percent burnt.
The police promptly arrested the victim’s mother-in-law, who was named in the First Information Report (FIR). Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the incident.
Hina Parvez Butt, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, has taken serious note of the case, demanding a detailed report from the District Police Officer (DPO) of Sheikhupura. She expressed a strong stance against violence towards women, stating that such brutality, especially against a pregnant woman, is intolerable and those responsible deserve no leniency.
Butt emphasized the authority’s commitment to ensuring justice and providing full legal support to the victim’s family. She assured that no compromise would be made in delivering justice and that stringent actions would be taken in accordance with the law.
The Chairperson reiterated the authority’s dedication to making Punjab a safe and secure place for women, underscoring that any form of violence against women is unacceptable.
