Abandoned baby girl stolen from hospital is dead

MUZAFFARGARH: An abandoned baby girl, who had been previously stolen from a government hospital, died and buried at an undisclosed location on Wednesday.

According to the Qureshi police, the series of events began when a baby girl was born to an unmarried woman at a private clinic in Basira town on Oct 14. Lady Health Visitor (LHV) Nasira Talha brought the infant to the Basira Rural Health Centre in critical condition, seeking urgent medical attention. She informed the doctor that the baby’s delivery had taken place at her quarters and that the infant now required oxygen support. The doctor decided to refer the infant to the Indus Hospital in Muzaffargarh.

In the documents, the LHV listed herself as the mother and her husband, Talha Nasir, as the father of the baby. She mentioned the identity card of Saleem. During the admission process at the Indus Hospital, the LHV’s female attendant identified the baby as Fatima, with parents named as Nasira and Talha. Later, the LHV and her associates fled with the infant when the Indus Hospital recommended transferring the baby to the Children’s Hospital in Multan.

The police investigation, according a first information report, said that the baby had died. Further inquiries indicated that Nasira, Talha, Saleem, and their unidentified accomplices had buried the infant at an undisclosed location.

Deputy Commissioner Mian Usman Ali took notice of the incident, seeking a comprehensive report from the health department. He directed Chief Executive Officer for Health Dr Zaffar Iqbal to take action against unqualified medical practitioners, and that the people running clinics illegally should be arrested.

A case has been registered against LHV Nasira, her husband Talha, Saleem, their unidentified maid, and other people involved in the case.

Two brothers held after teenage maid found dead

A teenage maid was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in the Aziz Bhatti neighbourhood, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

The victim, identified as a 16-year-old domestic worker had been employed in a bungalow located in Block-13C, Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Police reported that the girl met an untimely demise that raised concerns. The teenager was found unconscious andrushed to a hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, where she, unfortunately, passed away during the course of her treatment.

On the day of the incident, she had gone to work as usual, but upon her return, the homeowners left her in a semi-unconscious state inside a car at her residence. Witnessing her critical condition, the family swiftly transported her to a private hospital. Doctors assessed her condition as grave and advised transferring her to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Despite efforts, the maid succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday evening.

Family members of the victim alleged that the owners of the bungalow were absent on the day of the incident, with only their young sons present in the house. They claim that these individuals subjected her to torture and poison, ultimately leading to her tragic death. The family made an appeal to the government for justice, urging that the perpetrators be brought to account under the law.

Lady police surgeon Dr Samia confirmed that a postmortem report had been conducted, and a more accurate understanding of the situation would be possible after the examination report’s release.

SSP Irfan Ali Bahadur, the chief of District East Police, mentioned that due to the sensitivity of the situation, the authorities have detained two individuals, Ali and Aneel, who are brothers, pending the final medical report to confirm the cause of her death. Further investigations into this tragic incident are underway.
