Baqar takes notice of the missing girl

Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar on Tuesday took notice of a 20-year-old girl, Sana from Qambar, who was sent to the mansion of a Pir of Ranipur, reportedly gone missing. Chief Minister Sindh has directed the Divisional Commissioner and DIG Sukkur to investigate the incident and ensure the safe recovery of the missing girl. Earlier, Deedar Gurhmani, a resident of Qambar, while talking to the media, said one and a half years ago, he had sent his 20-year-old daughter Sana to the mansion (haveli) of Pir of Ranipur Syed Sohail Ahmed Shah in Khairpur for the trust and protection until his problems were resolved.

However, he said that Syed Sohail Ahmed Shah phoned him about a month ago, informing him that his daughter had gone missing from the mansion. He said he traveled to Ranipur to ask Pir Sohail how his daughter went missing from the mansion. However, the Pir misbehaved with him, asking him to leave. He appealed to the higher authorities to help recover his daughter.

Newly-weds killed for ‘honor’

GUJRAT: A newly-wed couple was killed over an honor-related issue in Charanwala village of Kharian Saddar police precincts on Tuesday.

Police said 30-year-old Abdul Jabbar and 25-year-old Saima had contracted a marriage of their choice. The couple shifted to a Kharian village, as the woman married the man against the will of her parents.

However, both were stabbed to death by unidentified suspects at a farmhouse in the village.

Police reached the spot and gathered evidence, while a Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) team also arrived to collect forensic evidence. Police said the bodies were transferred to Kharian Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for autopsy. Police are yet to register a case.

Governor stresses women’s role in all spheres of life

LAHORE: Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman has said that no society can progress without the active participation of women in all spheres of life.

The governor attended Tuesday’s Laurels of Honour Awards 2023 ceremony organized by the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Governor’s House.

Speaking on the occasion, he added that it was commendable that women were making their mark in every walk of life, including the business sector. He said women are given equal opportunities to advance in every field. He said that women’s empowerment is essential for gender equality.

The governor said that it is praiseworthy that the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Lahore Division) is playing a vital role in honing the entrepreneurial skills of women and ensuring their representation in sectors such as banking, accounts, pharmaceuticals, textiles, food and agriculture, fashion, sports, jewelry, environment, corporate sector and Small &Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

President of the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Shehla Javed Akram, and others addressed the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, Balighur Rehman distributed the Laurels of Honour Awards 2023 to women who have shown remarkable performance in business and various fields. Among them, 15 women were honored with lifetime achievement awards, and four women were awarded awards in the field of business. Among the women who received awards were Hafsa Saad Khan, Engineer Anum Tariq Khan, Dr Ayesha Shawkat, Fadia Kashif, Huma Fakhar, Ayesha Nasir, Dr. Manza Khalid, Rifat Al-Nisa Malik, Dr Rahila Akhtar, and Dr Shehla Javed Akram.

Meanwhile, he paid tributes to the martyred soldiers in the exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists in South Waziristan, saying that the Jawans of the security forces sacrificed their lives while defending the country and the nation. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayed that Allah Almighty grant the martyrs a place in His mercy and patience to the bereaved.

Imaan Mazari gets post-arrest bail;

ISLAMABAD  –  A local court on Tuesday granted post-arrest bail to Imaan Mazari Advocate and sent for­mer MNA Ali Wazir to jail on judicial remand for allegedly interfering with the official course and damaging public property.

Duty Judge Waqas Ahmed Raja heard the case registered by Tarnol Police Station.

Imaan Mazari and Ali Wazir were produced before the court after their physical remand ended.

At the outset of the hearing, Prosecutor Atif your Rehman said that the accused, Ali Wazir, was not cooperating with the police investigation. The po­lice had to recover the police kit and weapon from him, he said, and prayed the court to grant further physical custo­dy of him. However, Ali Wa­zir’s counsel opposed the request for physical remand and said that the police could not recover from his client during the last two days. He said that the police had included three non-bailable sections in the FIR against Ali Wazir. Imaan Mazari’s Lawyer, Qa­iser Imaam, said that his client had recovered nothing during the investi­gation. He said that his client had not threatened anybody, and now there was no need for her further custody. He prayed that the court to grant Imaan Mazari bail and order her release. The prosecu­tor opposed the bail petition and said that both ac­cused were heading the pro­cession, adding that Imaan Mazari had given objection­able remarks about the state.

Girl shot dead in Chuhng

LAHORE: A 16-year-old girl was shot dead in Chuhng here on Wednesday. The victim, identified as ‘E,’ was riding a bike with her father, Abdul Ghaffar, when some unidentified suspects intercepted them and opened fire. As a result, the girl received bullet injuries and died.
