Governor stresses need for women’s education, development

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali stated on Friday that education for women is essential for the country’s development and prosperity.

As a chief guest, he expressed these views while addressing the first convocation of Women University. Prof Dr Ghazala Yasmin, Vice Chancellor of Women University Mardan, also presented the university’s overall performance report. A large number of faculty members, students, and parents of students took part in the first conviction.

The Governor presented gold medals to 50 female students who had achieved outstanding academic positions in their studies. He also awarded master’s and bachelor’s degrees to 500 female students. The governor also congratulated students, parents, university faculty, and administration on completing their education in a variety of fields.

In his address to the convocation, the Governor, who is also the chancellor of the public sector universities, stated that today a disabled girl received her degree, which he described as not only a heartfelt joy, but also a tribute to her educational spirit. He announced the hiring of three disabled girls who had recently graduated.

He contended that as chancellor, his true happiness is that students from universities graduate and are immediately employed. He also stated that universities should maintain close relationships with industry and provide research opportunities to students based on the needs of the domestic industry.

He congratulated the university administration faculty on Women’s University Mardan’s overall performance. He went on to say that Women University Mardan has undoubtedly demonstrated excellent academic performance in a short period.

Transgender raped, other injured

A transgender was raped and other injured in Sundar here on Friday. Accused Farooq raped transgender Ali Asghar and injured other transgender Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din alias Arzoo when he tried to rescue Ali Asghar. Suspect Farooq attacked Arzoo with a sharp-edged knife. He received injuries and was admitted to hospital. Police have registered a case and arrested him.

Man arrested for blackmailing: A man has been arrested for torturing and blackmailing a woman and her daughter by uploading their pictures on social media in Liaqatabad. Complainant ‘N’ in her complaint said that the suspect identified as Fiazan blackmailed her daughter ‘M’ by making a few personal pictures and got cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the victim’s family. She said the accused continued to harass her and sent her objectionable pictures to her relatives. She said the accused along with his accomplice Arfan tortured and her and her daughter. Police have registered a case and arrested the suspect.

Man kills three aunts in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: A man, Waseem Murad, allegedly murdered his three aunts—Sham Bibi, Parveen Bibi and Shaheen Bibi—in their house in Basti Karna, in the limits of the Civil Lines police, on Wednesday.

The police said they arrested the suspect within half an hour, while the police crime unit and forensic unit collected evidence from the scene and shifted the bodies to the morgue of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital for postmortem examinations.

The police said that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect said he killed his aunts just in a fit of rage. The Civil Lines police have yet to register a murder case as a complaint from the family of the deceased women was not filed yet.

Woman winning divorce suit killed by ex-husband

GUJRAT: A woman who had contracted love marriage, was shot dead by her ex-husband on Friday after the divorce suit was decided in her favour by a court at Phalia town of Mandi Bahauddin.

According to police, Nimra (25), a resident of Azizabad Colony, Gujrat, had contracted love marriage with one Awais Qamar a few years ago. The couple had a daughter.

However, the couple developed differences and Nimra filed a civil suit seeking divorce from her husband in a civil court at Phalia.

The court decided the case in favour of Nimra on Friday.

After hearing the verdict, Nimra left the court premises with her brother.

On their way back, the brother and sister stopped at a stall to buy snacks, when Nimra’s husband, who had been chasing them, allegedly shot her dead on the spot and fled the scene.

On being informed of the incident, the police reached the spot and shifted the body to the Phalia Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy. A team of forensic experts later collected the evidence from the crime scene.

Police have registered a case under sections 302, 148, 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the suspect Awais Qamar, his brother Nadeem and their mother Anwar Bibi and started investigation into the case.

Woman runs away from Darul Aman in Sukkur

SUKKUR: A woman, who had eloped with her lover a month ago and took refuge in Darul Aman under court orders after police recovered her a couple of days before, ran away late last night.

The Darul Aman inmate Ms Ghulam Zehra, resident of SITE area, had married of her own free will Ghulam Murtaza of Thari Mirwah a month ago. Her relatives lodged a case against her purported husband at SITE police station.

The law-enforcers recovered the woman and produced her in local court where the woman appealed to the judge to send her to Darul-Aman. The court ordered she be sent to the shelter house from where she was believed to have run away late on Thursday night.

SSP Singhar Malik reached Darul Aman and made enquiries about the woman. He said the police were investigating the woman’s disappearance and would not spare any person found involved in it.

Police officials said that they had arrested three employees of Darul Aman for interrogation about the missing woman.
