Woman killed for honor

MANSEHRA: A woman was killed in the name of family honour and a minor boy lost life after falling into a water tankhere on Thursday.

The police said Zulfiqar Shah, who belonged to Kaghan valley and was settled in Ghazikot area, fired gunshots at Noreen Bibi injuring her seriously, and fled.

The injured was shifted to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital but the doctors referred her to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, where she succumbed to injuries.

The body was handed over to the deceased’s family after a postmortem at the Kath.

The police said the gunman’s son and the slain woman’s daughter had got married on their own free will after fleeing homes.

They said they had registered an FIR and started raids to arrest the suspected killer.

Also in the day, Shahzen, 1, the son of trader Mohammad Wahad, fell into a water tank in his house in Darband area while playing.

He was taken out and shifted to the Darband civil hospital unconscious but was declared dead by the doctors.

Meanwhile, employees of the revenue department observed a pen-down strike here on Thursday against the murder of a colleague in Charsadda.

District president of the Anjuman-i-Patwarin Bashir Khan said the strike would be extended indefinitely if the killer(s) weren’t arrested.

Two sisters kidnapped

OKARA: Two sisters were kidnapped from their home in front of their family at Chak 37-38 4-L.

According to the first information report (FIR), seven suspects, including Saleem, Hasan Ali and Nasir, kidnapped two daughters of complainant Noor alias Noora.

In his complaint, Noor said he along with his family was at home at night when the suspects entered the house and kidnapped his married daughter, Allah Rakhi and Mehwish, at gunpoint. The suspects also took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs1 million.

The Shahbore Police Station registered a case.

Meanwhile, a young boy went missing from the Ghouspura locality four days back.

Sharif’s son Salman left the house to buy something from a shop but did not reach there. On the report of Sharif, Basirpur police registered a case against unidentified suspect(s).

Two killed in ‘encounter’ were involved in F-9 Park rape case: police

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police on Thursday claimed that the two youngsters killed during a police ‘encounter’ at D-12 police picket were involved in the recent rape incident that took place in Islamabad’s F-9 Park.

The police on Thursday morning announced on its twitter handle that two gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at the police picket. Due to police’s “safety measures” the personnel remained unharmed, it added. According to the police, the gunmen during the ‘encounter’ received injuries and were taken to hospital where they died.

In another tweet later, the police said both the suspects had been wanted to police in heinous and street crimes. The police said one of the suspects was an absconder in a murder case as well.

The police said the suspects were also involved in the recent F-9 Park rape case.

The rape victim got an FIR registered stating that she had gone to the park at about 8pm on [last] Thursday along with her male colleague when two men stopped them at gunpoint and took them towards a jungle.

According to the complainant, the men beat her up, raped her and told her to “not come to the park at this time.”

1st international conference on women entrepreneurship concludes

The speakers of the concluding session of 1st international conference on women entrepreneurship have emphasized the importance of empowering women and called for removal of barriers and restraints that prevent their advancement in education and growth in various sectors, particularly in Sindh’s rural areas. They said women should work collectively for their rights and empowerment and the provincial government must extend its full cooperation in ensuring females’ success while men should also allow female members of their families to work for their empowerment. The 1st International Conference on “Women Entrepreneurship: Challenges and Opportunities” organized by Sindh University’s Technology Incubation Center (TIC) at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology was concluded on Thursday.

The Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) Prof. Dr. Khalil ur Rehman Khoumbhati told the audience that the provincial assembly had enacted certain laws to address issues relating to womenfolk but these legislation were not being implemented in letter and spirits. He said that the laws addressed the issues like marital abuse, honor-killing and forced conversion of minority women; therefore, he said the government must come forward to ensuring implementation on the legislation.
