Woman gang-raped on pretext of providing job

LAHORE: A woman was gang-raped on the pretext of providing her job in the limits of Gujjarpura police on Sunday.

The accused also made a video and threatened the victim of dire consequences. Police shifted the victim to the hospital for medical treatment and registered a case. The accused Khalil along with his accomplices tricked the victim by offering her a job and called her to Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital where they gang-raped her and left her in critical condition. Police shifted the woman to the hospital for immediate medical assistance and registered a case on the request of the woman. Inspector General Police Punjab Aamir Zulfiqar Khan has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from CCPO Lahore. He ordered the arrest of the accused as soon as possible. IG Punjab directed that justice should be ensured to the victim woman on priority basis.

Woman falls prey to violence by in-laws

LAHORE: A woman died due to the alleged violence of her in-laws in the Nishtar Colony police area on Sunday.

According to the police, ‘A’, a resident of Gujranwala, married to Arshad 15 years ago, was allegedly tortured by her husband, brother-in-law and a sister-in-law. The accused subjected her to severe torture and later gave her a poisonous substance.

As a result, her condition went critical. She was shifted to hospital in critical condition where she died. Police registered a murder case against Arshad and others on the complaint of the victim’s brother. Police shifted the body to the morgue.

Man kills mother-in-law for refusing to let her daughter go with him

SWABI: A man allegedly killed his mother-in-law after she refused to let her daughter go with him here on Sunday, police and Rescue 1122 officials said.

Kalu Khan police officials said Aizaz Khan, a son of the deceased woman, told them that his sister had come to her parents’ house after a quarrel with her husband, Ibrahim, a resident of Turlandi village of Razaar tehsil, over an unknown issue.

He claimed Ibrahim had divorced his wife on mobile phone after arguing with her.

The complainant said Ibrahim wanted to take his wife back to his home, but her mother refused, arguing they were divorced.

He said Ibrahim opened fire on his mother with a pistol after an argument, killing her on the spot.

The police registered an FIR and started investigation.

Meanwhile, unidentified assailants on Sunday shot dead a man in Zaida area, rescue officials said.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Wahid, 43. He was on way home on a motorcycle when he was targeted.

Both the cause of the incident and identity of the attackers could not be known.

Also in the day, body of a man, identified as Gul Samar, was found in Shahidan mountainous area of Topi city on Sunday.

Qadeemullah, father of the deceased, told the police he was informed by the locals about the body of his son lying in the area.

He alleged Azizur Rehman of Topi city was involved in killing of his son over a rivalry.

Separately, the police arrested three persons for firing in the air during a wedding ceremony.

SHO Swabi city Altaf Khan said after hearing the gunshots at a wedding party in Qaziabad area, he along a contingent went there and found three people firing in the air.

He said the police arrested the men identified as Ejaz Amin, Hasan Zeb and Imran Khan, and seized the weapons from them. He said a case was registered against them.

Writer highlights rural women’s struggle for their rights

TAXILA: Samina Tabassum, a Pakistani born Canadian writer, poet and travel autobiographer narrated excerpts from her book on Sunday about how rural women of Pakistan fight against all odds for their survival from denial of equal rights to an education, harassment at public places, domestic violence and exploitation from family to society and in some cases, the state itself.

The evening was arranged by Pakistan Youth League in collaboration with Pakistan National Circle and literary organisation Qandeel at Pakistan Ordnance Factories guest house on Sunday for the launch of her 13th book in Pakistan.

She said despite the fact that she belongs to Punjab, inspired by rich culture and traditions like gallantry and hospitality, she wrote two books about Pakhtuns including Humaray Pushtono ki Sarzamin.

She said that after the sad demise of her younger brother Lt Farrukh Tipu Shaheed, she was spiritually empowered to write about the sacrifices of the Pakistani armed forces and write two books which include interviews of military personnel.

Prominent writer and travel autobiographer Mohammad Toufeeq presided over the event while other speakers included prominent educationist Muneera Hashmi, president of Private Schools Management Association Prof Attaur Rehman Chaudhry, senior vice president (Rawalpindi Chamber of Small Industries) Naeem Ashraf, Pakistan Youth League President Aabid Hussain, General Secretary Javaid Mirza, Pakistan National Circle President Mateen Aslam, poetess Shafqat Hayat and president of Qandeel Alamuddin. In their speeches, they highlighted the significance and purity of the words of Ms Tabassum.

In her address, she said that it is high time that progressive writers in their life and work must side with those who provide an honest testimony of the times instead of supporting the oppressor, especially in the prevailing socio-economic and political situation in the country.

She said that as she belongs to this soil, most of her work revolved around the country, adding that through her books, she tried to show the real picture of Pakistani society and remove misconceptions about it, especially about the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

She added that being an educationist, she contributed for the country by establishing charity schools in various parts of KP, especially former frontier regions.

She said that she has special love in her heart for Wah garrison where she was born and grew up.

Sara Malik’s father alleges she was sexually assaulted

KARACHI: The father of 22-year-old Karachi girl Sara Malik, who allegedly committed suicide at Karachi’s Seaview beach, has claimed that her daughter was sexually assaulted by the hospital owner where she was working as a veterinary doctor.

The 22-year-old girl Sara Malik went missing from Karachi’s Seaview beach on Friday and it was later transpired by police that she might have committed suicide while jumping into the sea. In an FIR registered with Sahil police station, the father of the victim girl alleged that her daughter was raped by the owner of the veterinary hospital and she might have committed suicide under mental stress.

“Sarah left home on Friday to perform her duties as a veterinary doctor in private hospital,” he said in FIR, adding that she had a relationship with the owner of a veterinary hospital located in Karachi’s Defence Nishat Commercial area.

Police have arrested the owner and female staff of hospital on the complaint of the victim’s father. Police have shifted the body to Jinnah hospital for autopsy and recorded statements of family members and witnesses.

It is pertinent to mention here that the body of a female doctor who allegedly drowned at Karachi’s Seaview beach was recovered on Sunday morning. The mysterious incident caught attention after her bag with identification documents was found near Do Darya’s spot.

After getting information, the police team reached Seaview beach and started an investigation into the mysterious incident. According to the initial investigation, the police officials reported that the victim was identified as 22-year-old Sara Malik daughter of Abrar Ahmed and a resident of Azam Basti, Mahmoodabad. She works at an animal hospital while further investigation is under way.
