73 murdered, 22 women raped in Narowal last year

NAROWAL – 73 people were murdered and 22 women were raped in different incidents besides 646 hits of dacoity, robbery, snatching and theft were registered in the district during the year 2011.

The statistics collected from 13 police stations and 5 police posts of the district show that people were deprived of their valuable belongings of worth about Rs147 million during the last year while the police arrested about 1,969 criminals and proclaimed offenders including two criminals with head money namely Rafaqat Ali and Ejaz Ahmed.

The police also recovered 15 Kalashnikovs, 56 rifles, 49 guns, 9 revolvers, 426 pistils, 9 carbines, 7 daggers, 2 kilogram opium, 52kg charas and 1,036 bottles of liquor from the criminals.

The residents of the district have expressed their deep concern over the deteriorated situation of law and order in the district and have appealed to the high-ups to take a serious notice of the situation to protect the lives and properties of the residents of the district.

‘Honour’ girl shot dead

LAHORE – City police on Wednesday handed over the dead body of an 18-year-old girl to her family after the autopsy. Resident of Teeza Girah, Anam Bibi was shot dead by her brother in the name of honour in Manawan police area late on Tuesday night.

Police investigators said that Muhammad Usman shot dead his sister Anam Bibi at their residence and fled away.

According to the deceased family, the girl had developed love affair with a man and later eloped with him. However, she came back home on the intervention of the elders of the family. The police have also registered the murder case on the complaint of Shahnaz Bibi, mother of the deceased. Further investigations are underway.

Another school blown up in Swabi

SWABI: The militants destroyed two rooms of a girls’ primary school in Razar Tehsil on Wednesday as they tried to blow up yet another educational institution in Swabi district, officials said. The Government Girls’ Primary School Shagai in Turlandi area is located in a congested area. The explosion awoke the local people and sent a wave of shock across the Turlandi area. When contacted, the Kalu Khan Police Station House Officer Mushtaq Khan said the incident occurred at 2 am and soon after the explosion they reached the spot and inspected the building. He said two rooms of the school were badly damaged in the explosion.

Minor girl, woman killed after rape

Karachi: With the cases of rape witnessing a sharp rise in the past few months, a seven-year-old girl was raped and then strangulated while an unidentified woman was raped and her body was cut into two in separate incidents on Wednesday.

Zianab, the seven-year-old daughter of a fruit vendor, went missing on Tuesday evening. Her father, Jamshed, said that the last time he saw her was when she visited his fruit stall, a few metres from their house in Husain Hazara Goth. After giving her some fruit, Jamshed asked Zainab to go home. But when he reached home later, the girl was not there. He searched for her for the rest of the evening, but in vain. Disappointed, he reported the matter to the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police.

The police found Zainab’s body in bushes in Sikander Goth, Al-Asif Square on Wednesday. According to doctors, the girl was sexually abused and later strangulated to death.

According to data collected by WAR, 41 cases of rape were reported from January to June last year, and the number of younger children being assaulted is on an alarming rise. The report reveals that 27 percent of the rape cases in this period involve children aged between six and eleven years.

Meanwhile, in less than a week, the second headless body of a woman was found in a sack thrown in Hill Park, with doctors confirming that she was raped before being murdered.

Some people on a morning walk informed the police when they discovered two abandoned sacks in the park. Upon inspection, the police found that one bag contained a woman’s body cut into four pieces and the other had some clothes and a stitching machine.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities. The medico-legal officer (MLO) said the woman was raped before being killed.

Police sources said that the head of the woman, who seemed to be in her mid-twenties, had been severed from the body in an attempt to hide her identity.

Woman`s body parts found

KARACHI: Police found on Wednesday a woman`s decapitated body, cut up into many pieces, at a service lane on Shaheed-iMillat Road.

The police said that some area residents informed them about a suspicious bag at a service lane close to the Hill Park. The police reached the spot and found the headless body of a woman, which had been cut up into five pieces.

Ferozabad SHO Ejaz Khawaja said that shortly after the recovery of the body, the severed head of the woman was also found in a plastic bag on Razi Road in the PECHS area.

He said that a sharp-edged weapon was used in cutting the body into pieces. The body parts were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. Later, the parts were shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.
