Women political awareness project in full swing

ISLAMABAD: The Women Political Awareness project of $4.5 million, funded by Norway is being successfully implemented by the Ministry of Women Development in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Sources told Business Recorder on Friday that the project was aimed at training 28,000 women councillors to create political awareness among them through Women Political School programme of the Ministry. They said women councillors would have better understanding of women’ constitutional and legal rights as a result of the training besides developing their public service capacity.

The programme is expected to bring about a silent revolution among the womenfolk as it also helps in inculcating leadership qualities in women councillors at grassroots level. The sources said that the councillors were trained in preparing budget and its management. Women councillors are being trained to oversee political and administrative affairs in the local government system.

They said that women councillors learnt a lot in the political training and such trainings will be arranged in future as well. It trains a councillor to effectively present problems of her constituency in council, they said.

They said that a comprehensive syllabus, in line with lady councillors’ requirements in public offices had been worked out for imparting training. The sources said that as many as 400 women councillors have been trained as master trainers to impart training to other councillors across the country.
