Woman held for murder, says victim was her rapist

Karachi: The Crime Investigation Department has arrested a woman for murder, only to learn her tragic tale of injustice and that the man she had killed was a heartless monster that had inflicted a world of horror on her.

CID Operations chief Mohammad Fayyaz Khan told The News that his team was investigating the case of Zahir Shah, who was murdered near the airport a few days ago, when they were tipped off that the killer was near the Cantt Station planning to escape the city in a train.

The CID conducted a raid and arrested the woman. She told the police that she lived in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before her father married her off to an elderly trader from Quetta for Rs0.2 million in the year 2002.

Her husband took her to Quetta where she gave birth to two children. In 2007, he forced her out of his house after a verbal divorce. She arrived in Karachi in a bus and reached Lasi Goth where she met a faith healer by the name of Mir Abdul Wahab.

A few weeks ago, Wahab told her that a man wanted to marry her. He took her to place near the airport where she met with Zahir Shah, a taxi driver. Wahab and Shah took her to a farmhouse where along with another friend, Ziarat Gul, they gang-raped her. Later, Shah called up his friend to negotiate a price so that he could rape her too. During this time, the woman managed to pick up and hide Shah’s pistol. While he was taking her in his taxi, he fired gunshots at him and escaped. The CID Operations chief said they had Wahab and Gul and were further probing the case.
