President underlines need for women education

KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday emphasised the need for promotion of quality and modern education especially among girls for a developed and prosperous Pakistan.

“I have always tried for promotion of female education,” the president said while speaking at convocation-2014 of the Jinnah University for Women (JUW), first university exclusively for women in the country.

Chancellor of JUW Wajihuddin Ahmed and Vice Chancellor Dr Naeem Farooqui along with faculty heads welcomed the president.

Women were more than 55 per cent of the country’s population and they should be given the knowledge of modern academic disciplines and technologies to enable them to fully participate in every profession and in nation-building activities, the president said.

He urged the students to excel in their faculties and make best contribution towards social and economic revolution in the country.

He regretted that still a lot was needed to be done to promote literacy and quality education in the country; however the government was not in a position to allocate the required amount of funds for this very important sector.

The president also pledged that the past grandeur of Karachi as the city of lights would be revived.
“Karachi is the largest city of the country and peace and prosperity here is must for the prosperity of the country,” he said.

“I am satisfied, life has returned to normality in Karachi. Now, nobody will dare to disrupt the peace of the city,” he added.

He referred to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and said it was based on a series of mega projects in different sectors. Thus, he said, there would be a lot of opportunities for young professionals to utilise their talent and energy.

President Mamnoon rejected the impression of any change in the route of the CPEC.
He said the government was making serious and sincere efforts to address grievances of the people of Balochistan.

The government representatives were meeting with angry Baloch leaders and would sit with them for resolution of issues, he said.

The president asked students, teachers and other sections of the society to join hands for eliminating corruption from the country.

He distributed gold medals among students securing first position in different faculties.

Earlier, vice chancellor of the university Wajihuddin Ahmed spoke of the university’s activities and its future programmes. He thanked the president for his continued support for the university.
