NGO worker raped, poisoned: Police await medical report to track rapists

RAWALPINDI: A female employee of an NGO, Edara Taleem-I-Aghai, situated in F 6/1 sector of Islamabad, was gang raped by some unknown persons Friday and is still unconscious at Benazir Bhutoo Shaheed Hospital. Police are waiting for final report from her doctors to extend investigation into the crime.

ASI Asif of Kohsar Police, who is conducting investigation into the case, told Daily Times that the victim’s family had been found and ‘we are waiting for final reports from doctors and a statement from the victim when she comes into sense to extend the investigation.

He said that doctors have referred the case to the Gyne Ward. He said so far doctors have not reached any conclusion and hoped soon a final report will come out.

Asif added that progress in the inquiry would take place when the victim came into senses and was able to give a legal statement. He said so far police had not got any clue about rapists.

He said the family members had not mentioned anybody in the report, saying they have no enmity with anyone.

Sources in the hospitals said the victim was still on respirator and when she was put off respirator her condition started to deteriorate.

Over three people allegedly raped the victim in the limits of Kohsar Police Station and later gave her poison. Victim’s colleague Sohail Qureshi brought her to the hospital.

Lady doctor Shahar Zad Farooq examined her and confirmed that she was virgin before the incident. According to Qureshi, some unknown persons had thrown the victim near her NGO office in Sector F-6/3 and he brought her to hospital. Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) Dr Shaheen said the culprits forcibly administered poison to her, as there were marks of scratches on her chest. He said although her stomach was washed, due to excessive bleeding there were only 15 percent chances of her survival.
