LAHORE: A man and his wife were shot dead by three unidentified persons

LAHORE: A man and his wife were shot dead by three unidentified persons at the doorstep of their rented quarter in Kahna area in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The victims were identified as Nadim, 35, and his wife Nasreen, 30. The couple is survived by two children, police said.

Nadim, who served as a conductor with the City Bus Service, fell in love with Nasreen some years back and married her against the will of his mother. Nadim had divorced his first wife from whom he had also a child. His first marriage had taken place in his native village in Bahawalpur.

Nadim and Nasreen, along with their two children, were living in a rented one-room quarter in Nawab Town Ismaeel, Kahna. In the other five adjoining quarters, families of poor factory workers were living.

On the day of the incident, three unidentified persons carrying pistols came to the victims’ house and locked all other five quarters from outside before knocking at their door.

As Nadim opened the door, the accused fired four shots at him. He fell on the doorstep of his place.

After hearing the gunshots, Nasreen rushed to the door and attempted to raise alarm but she was also silenced by two gunshots.

The assailants escaped from the scene. The residents of other quarters managed to come out of their houses and found the couple lying in a pool of blood.

They were taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Police first suspected that Nadim and his wife were killed following an old enmity as Nadim’s father was also murdered in Bahawalpur a few years back by his enemies.

However, police changed the line of investigation after finding that a resident of the same locality Muhammad Afzal had disappeared from the scene.

The victim Nadim’s brother Amjad informed the police that Afzal had illicit relations with his sister-in-law Nasreen.

He said that his brother Nadim had told him about the objectionable relations between his wife and Afzal. The victim also caught the two in objectionable condition in his house.

He said that Nadim asked the accused Afzal to keep away from his wife. Furthermore, he used to drop his wife at the place of his in-laws living almost half a kilometer away from his residence.

Amjad alleged that Afzal had nursed grudge against his brother and subsequently killed him.

Police maintained that the accused eliminated Nasreen as her hue and cry could have put him in trouble.

Kahna police have registered a case on the complaint of Amjad and sent the bodies to morgue.
