Curbing harassment: Call to implement law

Participants of a workshop hailing from various parts of the country have expressed hope of working towards effective implementation of the anti-harassment legislation.

A three-day training workshop aimed at helping organisations implement and comply with the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill 2010 was held in the outskirts of the capital, said a press release issued on Sunday.

University students, members of political parties, public servants as well as civil society representatives from Mohmand Agency, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Islamabad, Chakwal, Lahore, Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Quetta participated in the programme. Participants included both men and women.

Mehergarh, an NGO, organised the workshop as a part of efforts to implement the anti-sexual harassment legislation throughout the country.

The participants said they were familiar with the law prior to the workshop too but now after the training knew exactly how to effectively implement it in their organisations.

A female participant from Mohmand Agency said she would spread the message in her area so more women felt comfortable actively participating in public life.
