APHR voices concern over burial of women alive

PESHAWAR: The Alliance for Protection of Human Rights (APHR) has expressed concern over the burial of five women alive in Balochistan.

During a meeting, attended by the representatives of the Aurat Foundation, SPO, Shirkat Gah, Noor Education Trust and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, the participants said the brutal act in the name of honour is against the humanity, law of the land and constitution of the country which guarantees the protection of the rights of every citizen.

They said on one hand the government is making rhetoric that it would defend and protect every citizen’s life, dignity and property and on the other side the graph of violations of human rights is on the rise and the government is paying no heed to such cases.

They applauded the role of media in identifying and highlighting the issue. However, they condemned the role of the Balochistan inspector-general of police and other officials for making false statements about the case and twisting the facts. The participants also flayed statements of a senator, justifying the inhuman act by terming it as a Baloch tradition and custom.
