KARACHI: A model court on Wednesday sentenced a convict to death for killing his wife over domestic dispute in 2019.
Abdul Jabbar was found guilty of shooting to death his 55-year-old wife Sakeena over a domestic dispute in Janjua Town.
On Wednesday, additional district and sessions’ judge Kamran Atta Soomro of the model criminal trial court (South) pronounced his judgement reserved after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides.
The judge noted that the prosecution successfully proved the charges against the detained accused, thus awarded him death sentence.
The court also ordered the convict to pay Rs500, 000 in compensation to the legal heirs of the victim. On default, he would have to undergo six-month imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the complainant alleged that his sister Sakeena and brother-in-law Abdul Jabbar quarrelled over some domestic dispute on Dec 20, 2019.
He added that Jabbar took out a gun and fired on his sister, who received bullet wounds in the upper torso that proved fatal as she subsequently succumbed to her wounds.
State prosecutor Kaleemullah contended that there was sufficient evidence to establish the allegations against the accused in commissioning of the offence, as circumstantial and ocular evidence fully corroborated the charges.
He asked the court to punish him strictly in accordance with the law.
On the other hand, the defence counsel argued that his client was framed in the present case on the basis of false allegations and asked the court to acquit him as he was innocent.
