Violence against wife to land in jail

ISLAMABAD: Any violence against wife by husband or any of his relatives will result into three-year imprisonment and fine.

New reforms in legal system explain violence as behaviour that leads to suicide of wife or threatens his life. Confiscation of woman’s property, snatching money, or stalking her for some ulterior motive would be a cognizable offence.

On receiving complaint the SHO concerned would warn the accused through a notice, and if the accused doesn’t stop himself then he will face three-month jail and one lakh rupee fine. If the complaint is again filed against the accused, he would get one-year jail and five lakh rupees fine.

Hyderabad man sets wife ablaze

HYDERABAD: In a suspected case of domestic violence, a man allegedly set his wife on fire but timely intervention by the neighbours saved her life. The incident took place on Saturday in Qasimabad town of Hyderabad.

The young woman, Farwa Shoro, received burn injuries on 10% of her body. She has been admitted to the Burns Ward of Liaquat University Hospital.

Bhitai Nagar police station SHO Sikandar Mustafa informed that the suspect, Nasir Shoro, who works at a real estate agency, has been arrested and the FIR is being registered. Nasir allegedly sprinkled his wife with petrol before setting her ablaze.

Farwa’s brother alleged, while talking to the media, that his brother-in-law wanted to kill his sister. He added that she was often subjected to domestic violence.

Man kills family on spiritual healer’s advice

KHANEWAL:A man killed his wife and two children on the advice of a “spiritual healer” in Kabirwala tehsil, Khanewal on Monday.

Police said Shaukat Ali, a resident of Mahni Sial Village, went to spiritual healer Jabir Shah in Multan to find a solution of his problems. After listening to his grievances, the accused faith healer told him that his wife and daughter were allegedly involved in immoral activities and he should murder them.

On the day of the incident, the accused slit the throat of his 55-year-old wife Parveen Bibi while she was asleep. The suspect also killed his nine-year-old son Abdul Rehman and 17-year old daughter Maryam who were sleeping next to her bed.  However, his 11-year-old son Yaqoob woke up due to the noise and fled the scene.

Soon after the incident, police reached the spot and arrested Shaukat. The police also seized the weapon used in the murders.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that his spiritual healer, Jabir Shah, had told him to kill his wife and daughter for the sake of honour. He added that acting on his orders, he decided to murder his entire family, but his 11-year old son escaped.

Meanwhile, the Saddar police have registered a case against the suspect and started investigations.

Earlier, four members of a family were killed in the name of honour in Hafizabad District. A man murdered his daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren in the village of Nasoowal in Pindi Bhitiyan after his daughter ran away from home to marry a man of her choice. The accused, Gulzar, attacked the family at night.

Punjab police looking for expat wanted in wife, daughter’s murder case

RAWALPINDI: Police have alerted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s immigration staff at the Islamabad International Airport (IIA) to arrest a Pakistani expatriate wanted in connection with the killing of his wife and a daughter and injuring two other daughters over a domestic dispute in Kallar Syedan on Saturday.

A source close to the investigation told Dawn that soon after the incident the police alerted the immigration authorities at the IIA to stop the murder suspect identified as Tariq Mehmood from flying out of the country.

The suspect got settled in Spain 15 years ago and came to Pakistan on Sept 3. After landing at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, he came to his native town Kallar Syedan on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Mehmood married Rukhsana alias Lubna about 27 years ago and the couple had four daughters and a son.

After reaching home, he had a brawl with his wife over the marriage of his elder daughter.

Mohammad Naeem Butt, a brother of Rukhsana, 45, in a report registered with the police stated that he along with his brother Saqib Nadeem was at his sister’s house on Saturday.

He said his brother-in-law started quarrelling with his wife and then pulled out a pistol and opened fire at her.

He also shot and injured his daughters Durre Shahwar, 23, Umme Kulsoom, 20, and Najma Tariq, 17.

Ms Rukhsana and Kulsoom, who were seriously injured, died while being taken to hospital. Ms Kulsoom was a commerce graduate, he added.

Durre Shahwar and her younger sister Najma Tariq, who suffered bullet injuries to their arms, were shifted to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) where they were stated to be out of danger.

Later, Mr Butt told Dawn that Durre Shahwar was discharged on Sunday while Najma was still under treatment at the hospital.

The police said Mr Mehmood wanted to marry off his elder daughter according to his wish but she refused and got her Nikah solmenised on her own.

The police said a team along with the copy of the murder case had been sent to the IIAP to prevent the alleged murderer from flying out of the country.

The police were also making efforts to arrest the suspect who might be hiding somewhere in his native area.

Man burns wife over second marriage issue in Jhang

JHANG: A man allegedly burnt his wife over second marriage issue in the Barwala village on Saturday.

Sixty-year-old Ghulam Abbas had contracted marriage with Saleem Bibi five years ago. The couple had two children from the wedlock. Later, Ghulam Abbas started pressurising his wife to allow him second marriage with another woman of his choice, but she refused. On the day of the incident, Ghulam Abbas allegedly burnt Saleem Bibi. As a result, she was seriously injured. The neighbours shifted the victim to the DHQ Hospital. Meanwhile, spokesman for Jhang police Shahid Ameer said that the FIR would be launched on the complaint of the victim.
