Man gets death penalty for killing wife

KARACHI A sessions court on Saturday awarded capital punishment to a man for burning to death his wife in the year 2011.

Concluding the trial against accused Ahsan Bungash, Additional District and Sessions Judge (Central) Rashida Siddiqui noted that Bungash had killed his wife Erum by sprinkling petrol on her body and setting her on fire over a domestic dispute.

The 32-year-old woman was rushed to a hospital but she succumbed to her burn injuries.

According to the prosecution, Ahsan Bungash, resident of Yousuf Plaza, had burnt and locked his wife Erum inside the kitchen and moved away. Upon hearing her cries, the neighbours rushed to the spot and took her to the hospital.

After finding Bungash guilty of killing his wife, the court ordered to execute him till death. The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the convict and in case of default the convict would have to face six years additional imprisonment.
